First year Special Education teacher, Ms. Enajah Winbush is a Freedom High School alum. Ms. Winbush played varsity soccer for Freedom all four years of high school. She also ran track in high school and later at Bluefield University. This is her first year coaching the boys’ junior varsity soccer team.

The team welcomed her as a member and as a coach. She feels “accomplished” and as if she’s “setting an example for female coaches” because there aren’t a lot of female coaches and people are used to there being a male coach for men’s sports.

Coach Winbush saw a lot of talent during tryouts and she felt that they were going to have a good year. Some of the expectations Ms. Winbush wanted the team to meet was the use of drills and techniques they used during practice. The boys didn’t treat her any different and they actually got along and grew a nice team bond with her. Unfortunately Coach Winbush tore her ACL this year, so she couldn’t practice with the team.

Coach Winbush is looking forward to an opportunity to coach soccer on the varsity level.

Her team finished the season strong with a win against Colgan High School.  They ended with a record of 11 wins, 2 ties, and 1 out of conference loss.
